In my bachelor's thesis, I aimed to develop a creative system that would make experimentation easier. I explained this process step by step in a publication to provide motivation and inspiration. The main focus was on fostering a spirit of exploration without predetermined content, allowing for potential solutions to future problems to emerge.
During my research, I discovered that there are both helpful and unhelpful forms of constraints. While it makes sense for graphic designers to draw inspiration from existing content, solely relying on it can limit the exploration of new approaches.
To expedite experimentation and testing, I implemented a grid system with three different sizes, allowing me to quickly extract visual material and try out various ideas. This approach of extraction and utilizing the grid proved to be the right level of constraint.
In essence, my book represents a regular design process, but with the inclusion of "training wheels" that encourage continued experimentation and pushing boundaries even beyond one's studies.
